In the boardrooms of multinationals, at ministries, and in numerous joint ventures worldwide, the energy trilemma has been placed high on the agenda. The question is no longer whether a solution is required, but how to solve these problems as quickly and effectively as possible. Deerns’ Smart Utility Networks will provide the solution.
Awareness of energy urgency
Organisations and consumers are increasingly becoming aware of the energy problem. They are beginning to realise that a future-proof energy supply will raise the quality of society as a whole as well as their own quality of life. What is concerned, is to ensure a balance between security and equity, as well as the impact of energy consumption. Hence the energy trilemma. But how to realise this balance?
The answer lies in the cooperation with parties in the immediate vicinity. By connecting neighbouring buildings, districts, and industrial areas. This is the basis for Deerns’ Smart Utility Networks (SUN). The principle behind SUN is a simple one. What may be redundant, or even waste, material to one participant, may be an energy source or raw material to another.
Within a Smart Utility Network, each member may be both supplier and buyer of different sources, including electricity, thermal energy, water, gases, and even waste material. Within a Smart Utility Network, participants are called prosumers. The flexibility of the network is what makes this system future-proof. Together with the use of sustainable energy sources, the careful matching of each other’s surpluses and shortages will ensure a new, future-proof balance.
Deerns plays a central part in the creation of a Smart UtilityNetwork. First of all, we will examine the interests of allparticipants, including consumers, facility managers, networkadministrators, energy suppliers, and trade & industry. We therebyfocus on matters such as:
- To what extent may water and energy be reused within the existing technical infrastructure?
- And: what could the value of these be for the participants within the network?
- How do the participating buildings perform in the area of energy consumption, and which sustainable systems are used?
By combining technical, legal and financial aspects, we willeventually arrive at a functional design for your Smart Utility Network, including a clear insight into its costs and benefits. Want to knowmore?
